6 Reasons why change is positive

Sometimes change is forced, and other times the change is by choice. Change can be scary and at times mournful, or it can be exciting and full of adventure; it depends on your perspective. Change can feel like an earthquake, and although sometimes turbulent, change can be our greatest teacher. Things are not always as they seem. Sometimes we do not realize the significance of change until much later. Whether it is a change in job, location or relationship, focusing on the positive can assist in making the transition more manageable.

What the caterpillar calls the end, the rest of the world calls a butterfly. - Lao Tzu

Below are six reasons why change is positive:

1. Stepping outside of your comfort zone can open the door to new opportunities:

Sometimes we stay in situations whether it be work or relationships due to feeling comfortable and not wanting to rock the boat. Fear of the unknown is never a good reason to stay stuck in a situation that is no longer acceptable. Stepping out of that comfort zone can be scary, but unless you take a risk, you will never know what is waiting just around the corner.

“We can't be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea. Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don't have something better.”

― C. JoyBell C.

2. Embracing change builds strength and confidence

It is important to stay open to change without judgment. Rather than worrying about how depressing or unpleasant life will be or fixating on what went wrong, try envisioning how this new direction will be beneficial. Replace thoughts of fear and loss with possibility. We are stronger than we think, and this too shall pass.

“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”

― Wayne W. Dyer

3. Change requires action

Sometimes change is not wanted, but rather something that is needed. It is easy to become stuck in state of inertia. One positive aspect of life’s many shifts is that action is required. Sometimes a little push is a necessary motivator.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” - Lao Tzu

4. Overcoming adversity & fear leads to a sense of pride and accomplishment

Successfully conquering fear and misfortune can feel very stimulating. The unknown may feel frightening, but often it is not as bad as we thought it would be. The only way around the fear is to examine the situation and make new plans. Try looking at the situation from an objective point of view while exploring your feelings about it. Journaling is a terrific way to bring clarity and balance to your thinking. Grabbing hold of the steering wheel and taking control of life leads to clear, mindful choices. Remember to stay open to possibilities. Transformation leads to self-empowerment.

“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”

― Joseph Campbell

5. A chance to focus on what you want

Try viewing this as an opportunity to go after what you want. No more excuses. Life is giving you another chance at happiness. By turning focus to an abundant life filled with what we want, we can move away from what is no longer serving us. There is a saying, energy flows where attention goes. Avoid giving too much energy to excuses because the excuses will only create obstacles. Sometimes the blocks are not real, but you will never know unless you take that first step.

"If we can use our problems and illnesses as opportunities to think about how we can change our lives, we have power."

-Louise L. Hay

6.) An opportunity to tune in and listen to the still small voice within

How often do we get a chance to pause and reflect? Change provides a moment to do some soul searching and listen to the still voice from within. Try thinking of this as a rare opportunity to check-in on a soul level and answer the multitude of questions that come up. There is something very healing and grounding about reestablishing a connection to self. Many of the answers we need are inside of us, so start a dialogue with yourself.

"Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness." — Eckhart Tolle
